Department Of Oral Medicine And Radiology

Oral Medicine & Maxillofacial Radiology is that branch of Dentistry that integrates the fields of medicine and dentistry to promote optimal health. The department of Oral Medicine and Radiology is responsible for didactic and clinical teaching programs encompassing all aspects of oral diseases and its relationship to systemic diseases utilizing advanced radiology and other diagnostic techniques. This department screens all patients who seek emergency and comprehensive dental treatment, detection and treatment of oral cancers at early stage and also provides consultative services for them.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

KNOWLEDGE:
Theoretical, Clinical, and practical knowledge of all mucosal lesions, diagnostic procedures pertaining to them and latest information of imaging modules.

SKILLS AND ATTITUDES:

  • Diagnostics skill in the recognition of oral lesion and their management
  • Research skill in handling a scientific problem pertaining to oral treatment.
  • Didactic skill in encouraging younger doctors to attain learning objective

ATTITUDE:
The positive mental attitude and a persistence of continued learning need to be included.

The department of oral Medicine and Radiology of M.A.Rangoonwala College of Dental sciences and research centre started functioning in the year 2000. From the year 2007 the department has started a post graduation course under its wings with the intake of two students per year. The department has separate UG and PG clinics and as well as a separate radiology section. It also has a separate unit for sterilizing instruments. The total number of out patients of the department per day is around 100-120. This section reflects the progress of the specialty in itself, beginning from conventional investigations and treatment modalities to the most advanced digital radiographic units including R.V.G, digital intraoral and extraoral radiographic machines, intraoral camera, soft tissue laser unite etc. It also offers treatment for pre-cancerous lesions and conditions as well as TMJ dysfunction syndromes.
