DEPARTMENT OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery involves surgical management of Various Pathologies and Deformities of the Oral cavity, Jaws & Face. These procedures are undertaken on either Elective or Emergency basis. Minor surgeries are conducted on day basis in out patient Department.

Major surgeries involve admission of the patient in Hospital & use of General Anesthesia.

Various surgical procedures undertaken in the Department are Divided in to Two parts

(A) Various Major Maxillofacial surgeries

  1. Management of Facial Trauma: Mandible, Midface, Pan Facial
  2. Open reduction with rigid fixation using miniplates & Screws.
  3. Management of Benign & Malignant tumors of Oral cavity & reconstruction using autogenous grafts
  4. Management of Cysts of Oral Cavity
  5. Management of TMJ joint Ankylosis & other Pathologies.
  6. Surgeries for Correction of Jaw profiles i.e. Orthognath i.e. surgeries.

Minor Oral surgical procedures: 

Involves procedures done under Local Anesthesia

  1. Exodontia - Extraction of teeth
  2. Trans Alveolar Extractions - Extraction of teeth as a minor surgical procedure.
  3. Surgical extraction of Impacted / Supernumerary teeth  
  4. Apical surgeries – for Endodontically treated teeth with periapical pathologies
  5. Excisional Biopsies – of  Precancerous lesions , lesions of the Mucosa i.e. Ranula, Mucocoele
  6. Incisional Biopsies ­–of suspected Carcinoma of Oral cavities , F.N.A.C of cystic lesions
  7. Closed reduction & fixation- of patient with facial trauma, fractures of mandible , Mid face dent alveolar fractures
  8. Placement of dental Implants – for Prosthetic replacement of teeth
  9. Use of CO2 laser -  for treatment of mucosal pathologies, Precancerous lesions.

The infrastructure & various equipment for management of these surgeries are as follows.

  1. Exodontia clinic.
  2. Minor Oral surgical Department
  3. Major Operation Theatre fully equipped with Multiparameter, Boyles apparatus ventilator, Suction apparatus, Oxygen cylinders.
  4. ICU  -Two bedded with Recovery room –fully equipped with trined staff
  5. Anesthetists & Paramedical / Nursing staff.
  6. Micro Oscillating Saws & Micro motors.
  7. Distraction Osteogenesis Kit.
  8. Titanium bone plating kit _ Synthes
  9. CO2 Laser
